Case Study: Expanding HIV Testing Access in Tribal Communities

To overcome barriers to HIV testing in Tribal communities, Southern Plains Tribal Health Board launched Native Test, an SMS-based program featuring the OraQuick HIV Self-Test. The initiative has distributed over 13,800 kits nationwide, with more than 9,100 kits shared through outreach and 4,780 kits mailed via text and online requests.

“We like to say someone could use Native Test at the bottom of a hill, on a flip phone, with one bar of service — and still be able to know their HIV status.” -Robbie Bright, Native Test Program Coordinator

Native Test demonstrates how culturally informed, low-tech solutions can expand access to care and empower individuals to take control of their health.
